Erik Wheater
Engineer • Mixer • Producer • Musician
Erik Wheater is among the next generation of Recording Engineers and musicians. Being raised in the late 80’s and 90’s, he grew up listening to classic 60’s and 70’s rock and more modern rock and metal styles of the 80’s and 90’s. He naturally developed a taste for both worlds, as sonically different as they are. It was obvious at a very young age that music was to be his life long passion and pursuit, his parents enrolled him in drum and percussion lessons at a local music school.
In high school his interest in audio grew dramatically. After his high school metal band recorded at a local studio, he knew he wanted to make his career on both sides of the glass. With the help of friend and future studio partner, Carl Fuehrer, Erik researched and experimented with recording. By the end of high school he had a solid grasp of recording principles and techniques.
During college he found work at an area recording studio. All of his time was spent studying techniques and reading equipment manuals seemed to pay off. Erik hit the ground running and quickly moved up the ranks from being an intern to one of the studio’s primary Staff Engineers, in just a few short months. Over the next few years he discovered his own way of recording and mixing and developed his own sound.
Erik’s affinity for both analog and digital equipment and his wide range of influences enable him to lend a different view to every project and tailor a sound that is best suited to it.
